The Curriculum in the Senior School is based on
the English National Curriculum in Key Stage 3, with individual
department heads tailoring their courses to take into account the
pupil make-up and the local environment. In Key Stage 4 pupils follow
two-year courses culminating in the GCSE or IGCSE examinations. Pupils
of sufficient ability are then invited to continue their studies at
A/S and A level.
The school's policy is aimed towards being the
top academic institution in the area. The foundations on which this
policy is built include:
-
rigorous testing on entry to the school as well
as when transferring from the Junior to Senior School.
-
the acquisition of fluency in English for all
pupils; the extremely successful English programme is a major
factor in achieving this.
-
recruiting and retaining high quality staff;
international mindedness, subject expertise, experience and pleasant
demeanours are high on the lists of requirements.
-
facilities to enhance the learning
experience of pupils of the 21st century.
Outside of the academic curriculum pupils
experience a plethora of sports and activities, all of which help to
round off the holistic education which is essential for healthy
development. Within the education of all the children we try not to
lose sight of the fact that learning should be fun.
The curriculum itself provides a
rich blend of academic, physical, social, artistic and cultural
learning opportunities for the pupils in our care. Pupils are
encouraged to strive for excellence in all that they undertake, to be
inquisitive, to appreciate and tolerate the needs and differences of
others and, above all, to enjoy learning.
