15th of June 2008

Dear Parents of Reception W,

Water

This week starts with a fun event of going to the Hilton again. The children had such a fantastic time last time and we had a wonderful opportunity to go again!

We have been doing some exciting experiments with water such as examining different sorts of material to see if they absorb coloured water.  We have also been pouring water into different sized containers and making estimates of which will hold the most/least cups of water.

Celebration Assembly

Don’t miss out on the Celebration Assemblies this week. Foundation and Key Stage 1 is at Tuesday 8am.

Each year group will be performing and we will be celebrating the children’s success this year.

Our Vet

Some of the children decided that they were a bit bored with our shop area in the classroom. As a class we made a list of things we could turn the shop into and then we had a vote and eliminated the options that weren’t very popular. We then discussed what we could do for the last few options and one option became more interesting- The Vet!

The children made all sorts of things for the vet, such as signs to go around their neck ‘I am a vet’ and ‘I am a customer’. They made some play money, labels for the vet and animals, and finally homes for their animals.

After we set up where we wanted to have all the items in the vet we practised folding clothes and wrapping up bandages so we could keep our vet neat.

The Vet has become very popular in class and the girls have added an animal parlour recently to continue the fun!

Favourite song of the week

Five little monkeys swinging in the tree

Along came a crocodile

As quiet as can be

One little monkey said ‘you can’t catch me’

Snap!

 Four little monkeys...

Three little monkeys...

Two little monkeys...

One little monkey swinging in the tree

Along came a crocodile

As quiet as can be

One little monkey said ‘you can’t catch me’

Snap!

Missed Me!

 Thanks for your support,

Sarah Wright

Week beginning June 15, 2008

Dear Parents,

This will be my last letter to you and I want to express my very sincere appreciation for having helped make this a wonderful year for me! I always wanted to teach in an International School “someday” and I feel so lucky that when this dream has finally come true, it has been with such special children and amazingly supportive parents! I have learned so much from your children and have enjoyed the ‘international’ aspect tremendously! Of course I am excited to go to Canada and visit my own three children, but I have to admit to feeling very sad that my year with this wonderful class is coming to an end. I will certainly miss them.

A special goodbye to Xavier, who is moving to Sharjah. We will miss him at AAESS!

I would also like to extend an extra thanks to the parents who volunteered for our four field trips. You certainly helped make them happy and successful trips for the children – and me!

Special Events: Lots of them coming up!!

Bookfair:  There will be a bookfair held in the Library all week. You are welcome to attend and purchase books any time.

Birthdays: Some of the children have birthdays in the summer, so we will be celebrating them in advance over the next few days – Anas on Monday, Malak on Tuesday, Hamad on Friday and Annabelle next Sunday.

Aladdin Pantomime:  Some of the KS2 children are performing this on Sunday and Monday evenings. Our class will get to see it on Monday during school hours.

Celebration Assembly: This Tuesday, June 17 at 12:30 – 1:30 your children will be performing two songs and receiving certificates at the Nursery- Year 2 “End of Year Celebration Assembly”. Please come share in this exciting event! Everyone is welcome!

Pirate Party with Year 1 teachers:  On Wednesday, June 18 all Reception children will be visiting the Year 1 teachers and classrooms at a “Pirate Party”. Your children are asked to dress as Pirates for this event. No need to panic about an elaborate costume – a bandanna scarf for the head and an eye patch or a bit of face paint will do.

Fruity Fun day:  On Thursday, June 19 the student council will again be selling Fruit Kebabs for 1 dirham each. Please take any fruit donations to the Library first thing in the morning. Thank you!

Reports home and Disco dance (during school hours): Monday, June 23.

Last day of school Class party (no uniform day):  Tuesday, June 24 All donations of food and drink for our party are very welcome! Please bring them in the morning.  We may just party all day!! Please note that the whole school will dismiss at 12:00 on the last day.

Thanks again for all your support this year. Have a wonderful summer!

Rena

Dear Parents,

It is with some sadness that the year is coming to a close – it has been a pleasure spending this time with your children and observing their growth – they are a neat bunch of kids and together make up a great classroom! (…and I bet you can’t believe they’ll be in Year One in September!)

We welcome back Jana in our final week and look forward to hearing about her adventures!
