Pastoral Care is about
ensuring that we have a school community that supports and
promotes the welfare and progress of all pupils. It is about
developing a sense of belonging, identity, positive ethos and
social responsibility.
In a bid to develop the strength of the Pastoral Care systems in
the school we shall be paying particular attention to the
following;
·
the nature and
relationships between pupils, teachers and other adults,
implanting the need for mutual respect,
·
monitoring all pupils’
overall welfare, performance and progress,
·
maintaining a fair and
consistent behaviour management policy,
·
developing the
pastoral curriculum (P.S.H.E. and Citizenship) as a means of
articulating school values,
·
setting up an
effective House system,
·
encouraging maximum
participation in a stimulating and challenging outdoor education
programme,
· increasing
opportunities for students to take on responsibility and to be
involved in school life.
Recent research has focused
in particular on the beneficial effects of focusing on the
social and emotional aspects of learning (SEAL)
within a supportive whole-school environment. Results are
showing students are showing positive improvements not only in
their social interactions and conflict resolution skills but
also in terms of improved academic performance.
Al Ain English Speaking School is therefore strongly committed
to nurturing the students into understanding how they can take a
positive role within our school community and ultimately prepare
them for the opportunities, responsibilities, relationships and
experiences they will have in their adult life.
