“Studying music
encourages self-discipline and diligence, traits that carry
over into intellectual pursuits and that lead to effective
study and work habits. An association of music and math has,
in fact, long been noted. Creating and performing music
promotes self-expression and provides self-gratification
while giving pleasure to others. In medicine, increasing
published reports demonstrate that music has a healing
effect on patients. For all these reasons, it deserves
strong support in our educational system, along with the
other arts, the sciences, and athletics.” — Michael E. DeBakey, M.D.,
Leading Heart Surgeon, Baylor College of Music.
The Music Department at Al Ain English
Speaking School aims to develop the full range of students’
musical abilities and interests.
Each student from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 3 receives a weekly
class lesson delivered by a music specialist. During this time
the students develop the skills of performing, composing and
listening and appraising. The students can access a range of
instruments from tuned and untuned percussion to electronic
keyboards and a range of music software.
This year, for the first time, AAESS students are following
GCSE
Music as an option.
In addition students have the opportunity to opt in for an
increasing range of additional musical activities. During Period
7 a range of activities are offered from Junior and Senior Choir
and Bands to Rock bands.
Also we currently have opportunities for drum, guitar and violin
tuition with piano and flute coming in the near future.
