Welcome to the Key Stage 2
(KS2) section of Al Ain English Speaking School’s website. This
department consists of three parallel classes of Year 3,4,5 and 6.
As in the rest of the school, the British national curriculum
forms the core of our curriculum but is enriched by variations
appropriate to our location and students. In addition we offer
Arabic classes and Islamic studies for Muslim students.
In
addition to the normal calendar based on the British
National Curriculum, we also have interspersed many
additional creative and imaginative themed days. The
children take trips to bring their studies to life and have
many hands-on activities so that we enable children to learn
through their multiple-intelligences.
In KS2, the
curriculum consists of weekly sessions of English, Maths, Science,
ICT, History, Geography, Art, Music, French, Arabic, PE and
Islamic studies for Muslim students. The children also have
weekly sessions in the Learning Resource Centre (Library) as well
as free access at break times.
In order to
enrich the curriculum, the students in KS2, also have extra
curriculum activities twice a week. These are in the last lesson
of the day on a Tuesday and Wednesday. The children select an
activity for the term; there are various options and the choices
are driven by the student’s preferences. Current examples include,
dodge ball, jewellery making and design technology.
The Year six
children participate in the Standard achievement tasks (SAT’s).
These are delivered in exactly the same way as the UK but marked
internally.
