As Albert Einstein once said; "As a young man, my
fondest dream was to become a geographer. However, while working
in the customs office I thought deeply about the matter and
concluded it was too difficult a subject. With some reluctance I
then turned to physics as a substitute."
Geography at Al Ain English
Speaking School, therefore promotes an
understanding of the physical and human processes that shape the
contrasting environments, communities and cultures that surround
us. It provides an important link between the natural and social
sciences. We make extensive use of day trips and residential
excursions to support and enhance each pupil's learning and
teaches an understanding of maps and a range of investigative,
ICT and problem solving skills, vital to every pupil in every
subject and utilized throughout life.
All Al Ain English Speaking
School students study Geography in Years 7 - 9. Topics of study
include; the resource crisis, volcanoes, population,
development, ecosystems, rivers, coasts, crime, globalization,
environmental issues, plus many more! We investigate these
topics through a range of places both in the UAE and across the
globe. Practical work supports classroom learning with trips in
the UAE, to sites along the East Coast. In Geography lessons,
pupils develop a wide variety of transferable skills and many
proceed on to study Geography at IGCSE level.
At IGCSE and A level AAESS
pupils are entered for the highly prestigious Cambridge
examination At this level the range of topics and places studied
is even more extensive. The emphasis is upon the study of real
examples to illustrate the complexity of human and physical
environments. Again, field studies and ICT form an integral part
of the course.
