Geography at AAESS enables pupils to understand global
issues at a variety of scales. They study a range of topics
in human and physical geography and are encouraged to use
their skills of enquiry to make decisions, solve problems
and ask questions. Learning Geography in an International
school provides may opportunities to experience other
people's opinions and viewpoints and all pupils learn about
the importance of citizenship and sustainability throughout
their courses.
All
AAESS students study Geography in Years 7 - 9. Topics of
study include; map skills, natural hazards, population,
development, ecosystems, rivers, coasts, globalization, and
weather and climate. Pupils follow the Key Stage three
British National Curriculum and study a range of places and
case studies with both local and global examples.
At IGCSE
and A level AAESS pupils are entered for the Cambridge
examinations. At this level the range of topics and places
studied is even more extensive. The emphasis is upon the
study of real examples to illustrate the complexity of human
and physical environments.
At all
levels pupils have the opportunity to carry out fieldwork
investigations and practice the key skills of ICT,
communication, independent learning and problem solving
which are important for them and for their employers in the
future.
