Welcome
to the Al Ain English Speaking School Nursery. The school realises
that this is a very important time for both you and your child.
Our aim is to provide a safe, active and stimulating environment
that will ensure your child will grow both socially and
academically. Each Nursery group is led by enthusiastic and
qualified educators and learning support assistants.
The Foundation Stage is the period of education from aged 3 to 5
years old it gives a solid foundation for later learning. Children
in the Foundation Stage are highly active and “Learn through
play”. Our Nursery programme prepares the children with a variety
of activities that lead gently into further academic learning in
Key Stage 1.
Play is the key to the way in which young children learn. The
teachers support and extend the child’s development both as an
individual and in group situations using a “hands on” experimental
approach.
The Foundation Stage has six Early Learning Goals (ELG)
Personal, Social and Emotional development (PSE)
Communication. Language and Literacy (CLL)
Mathematical development (numeracy) (MD)
Knowledge and Understanding of the World (computer and
science) (KUW)
Physical development (PD)
Creative development (CD)
The school plans termly, weekly and daily activities, which
reflect the British Curriculum Early Learning Goals. Many of the
planned activities are inter linked to termly topics for example:
Myself and my family
Transport – land, sea and air
Animals – farm, desert and jungle
Mini – beasts – animals that crawl, slither and jump
Shopping, money and healthy eating
The 5 senses
The introduction of letter sounds (Jolly Phonics programme)
Throughout the year we introduce colours, shapes, and numbers.
Opportunities to play with water, sand and play dough are also
planned in the timetable.
The Nursery offers weekly Physical Education (PE), music, library
and central area sessions in addition to the activities in the
Nursery area. The central area provides added play experiences
with a range of extra role play situations. For example, A
castle, hairdressers, puppet shows and even a pop idol stage!
Later in the year Information Computer Technology (ICT) is
introduced.
For those children who have English as a second or third language,
the school offers English as an Additional Language (EAL) and the
children are offered extra support. By starting our support at
this age, we can build strong language foundations to support
later learning. The children are taken on outside trips for
example the farm, zoo or a teddy bears picnic in the park.
Weekly letters are sent to all parents to keep you updated on all
Nursery and school events and to ensure parent participation. The
Nursery is a fun, active and colourful area, where the children
are happy and able to learn and develop in a well rounded
environment.
