Al Ain English Speaking School

Secondary School

The Senior School

Al Ain English Speaking Senior School is a vibrant, multi-cultural community made up of students from over forty different nationalities. Our staff and students are united by the medium of the English language in a caring, friendly and happy atmosphere which resonates throughout our school.
In recent years, the Senior School has grown considerably both in terms of the number of students on roll and the breadth of courses on offer to our students.
However, by ensuring that class sizes are kept low, the quality of education we offer to our students is very good. Our public examination results were extremely pleasing. In the 2010-11 academic year, 70% of our Year 11 students attained 5 GCSEs graded A* to C.

We are academically inclusive upon entry and cater for students with a wide range of academic talent and ability. (However our provision for students with special needs is limited)Class sizes are generally lower than 25 and our our Learning Support Assistants make a valued contribution to the life of the school working in close partnership with the Class Teachers.

The Senior School follows the National Curriculum of England from Years 7 to 11 and AS/A2 Levels in Years 12 and 13. This divides the School into three phases:
Key Stage 3
Years 7, 8 and 9
Key Stage 4
Years 10 and 11
The Sixth Form
Years 12 and 13
Each phase ends in assessed examinations. These are:
Key Stage 3
National Curriculum Tests
These exams are set in the core subjects Mathematics, English and Science at the end of Year 9. The results indicate the pupil’s standing in terms of National Curriculum levels in that subject at that time.
Key Stage 4
GCSE Exams
The General Certificate of Secondary Education is an internationally recognised qualification at the secondary level. Most students will be examined in May/June of Year 11, although students can be entered in Year 10. These exams form the foundation of any post 16 qualifications.
Sixth Form
AS and A2 Exams
The A Level programme is a major international qualification for university entrance, including the more prestigious universities around the world.
