Al Ain English Speaking School

I am delighted and very honoured to take up the responsibility of Principal of Al Ain English Speaking School. I consider my role primarily to be that of service to the school community; its parents, staff and most importantly, our students. In practice, this will mean caring for the welfare of everyone on a daily basis, the education as well as administration. Regarding leadership, I view this as a communal responsibility; everyone has their part to play and offer in taking the school further and to new heights. It is my role to harness that potential.

I must say how impressed I am in general with the school, especially the disposition of the students. The new sports hall and swimming pool are outstanding, and will be enjoyed for many years into the future by generations of students. These facilities will be open in the coming weeks.

One huge asset is to have a school that provides from nursery through to sixth form, allowing a holistic vision for educational growth. I favour an education that inspires children to learn as well as one that develops their natural talents and abilities; in this sense, one that is child centred. A good education will lead to excellence in examination performance, but it should not start with that as its only aim. I am therefore clearly interested in the overall development of a child or young person on their journey to adulthood where we learn from our failures and enjoy our successes. I believe education should offer a daily experience of discovery and intellectual challenge which is fulfilling, interesting and enjoyable, as well as that vital preparation for the future; after all, every day, is a day in someone’s life and nothing is worth more than this day.

It has been a great pleasure to meet some parents informally during my first week and I would like to offer the opportunity to meet more of you if you if are available. I am therefore, this week offering a discussion session for secondary parents, this Wednesday 5th May at 6pm in the new school hall. I hope to offer some light refreshments, and anticipate the event will be last for as long as you wish, but let’s say about an hour or so in the first instance. The following Wednesday 12th May, I would like to offer the same meeting and timing to primary parents. I am interested to hear what you enjoy about the school and what you would like to see further improved. I will prioritise accordingly my work in light of your comments. I will offer regular meeting opportunities like these in the future as well as attending other forums such as the Friends of AAESS.

It is my intention to do the best I am able as Principal with your support. I have every confidence Al Ain English Speaking School will go on to achieve the owners ambition of making it one of the very best educational providers in this region. I would like to end by wishing all of our year 11 and 6th form students every success in their examinations.

Looking forward to meeting you.

Best wishes,

Adrian May
